Blueberry Picking in Our Garden

There is something so satisfying about walking out into the garden on a warm summer morning with an empty bowl and coming back with it overflowing with fresh blueberries. It’s one of my favorite parts of summer.

Years ago, we planted six blueberry bushes, never imagining how much joy they would bring us. Today they are beautiful, mature bushes that produce more blueberries than we can eat fresh. Every summer we fill bowl after bowl with sweet, juicy berries, and it’s become one of my favorite traditions.

Four of our bushes produce regular-sized blueberries, while the other two grow giant sweet blueberries. They don’t produce as much fruit, but they more than make up for it with their incredible flavor. If you’ve never grown different varieties of blueberries, I highly recommend it!

Our garden has changed over the years. While we once had a large vegetable garden, this year we’re beginning a new adventure by creating a cut flower garden. I’ve dreamed about it for years and can’t wait to fill the house with fresh bouquets and share flowers with family and friends.

We’re still growing a few vegetable favorites, though. My husband loves homemade zucchini bread, so zucchini is always a must. We also planted grape and cherry tomatoes for snacking and salads, along with basil, thyme, and parsley that we use throughout the season.

Building a beautiful flower garden takes time, but that’s part of the joy. Every season brings something new.

One of my favorite ways to save money is shopping the clearance section at Lowe’s. We’ve found beautiful perennial flowers at amazing prices. With a little care, they come back bigger and stronger every year, proving you don’t have to spend a fortune to create a gorgeous garden.

Now it’s time to finish picking these beautiful blueberries! Once the harvest is complete, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite recipes, including fluffy blueberry muffins, old-fashioned blueberry buckle, and a delicious blueberry coffee cake.

Do you grow blueberries or have a favorite way to enjoy them? I’d love to hear in the comments!
