Shepherd’s Pie

There are certain dinners that just feel like home, and Shepherd’s Pie is one of them.

It’s not fancy. It’s not complicated. It’s just good, honest comfort food.

I love recipes like this — flexible, forgiving, and perfect for whatever you have on hand. Beef, turkey, chicken, or lamb all work beautifully. It’s simple food, made with love.

And in our house, those are always the best meals.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef, chicken, turkey, or lamb
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2–3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup beef broth (or chicken broth)
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 can whole kernel corn (or vegetable of choice)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté the ground meat.
Add salt and pepper and cook until no longer pink.
  3. Sprinkle flour over the meat and stir well. Cook for about 1 minute.
  4. Add Worcestershire sauce and broth.
Simmer until the sauce thickens (about 3–5 minutes).
  5. Pour the meat mixture into a casserole dish.
Layer the corn (or chosen vegetable) evenly on top.
  6. Spread mashed potatoes over the top.
  7. Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes, or until heated through and lightly golden on top.Mashed Potatoes
    Ingredients

    • 3 medium to large russet potatoes (or potatoes of choice)
    • 6–8 tablespoons butter
    • Whole milk, to taste
  8. Instructions
    • Peel potatoes and cut into cubes.
    • Rinse cut potatoes under cold water to remove excess starch.
    • Place in a pot and cover with water.
    • Bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender.
    • Drain well.
    • Mash with butter and milk until smooth and creamy.
